Man accused in gun sales to informants

NEW CASTLE — A South Side man is facing two sets of charges for allegedly selling guns illegally.

New Castle police Wednesday charged Marcus Shotts, 27, of 110 E. Home St. after he allegedly sold a 9 mm gun to an undercover confidential informant May 6 in a parking lot on West State Street.

Shotts had been arrested and charged Friday in connection with the alleged sale of a .22-caliber six-shot revolver, also to an undercover a confidential informant April 14 in a parking lot downtown.

Members of the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force Special Investigative Unit conducted the controlled operations both days in which informants bought the guns from Shotts at the prearranged locations.

The gun purchased this month had its serial number scratched off, police said.

Shotts faces one count of prohibited possession of a firearm in connection with the April transaction. He faces one count each of prohibited possession of a firearm, possession of a gun with the manufacturer’s number altered and altering or obliterating the mark of identification, in connection with the May sale.

He was arrested on the first set of charges May 9 and arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie, who set his bond at $5,000. He was freed on bail before Wednesday’s charges were filed.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest in connection with those charges.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 fell from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. Many are speculating that Russian rebels (supported by Vladimir Putin) are responsible for downing the aircraft. What do you think?

I'm not sure. I'll just wait until the investigation is over to make up my mind.
What is up with these Malaysian Airlines planes? I know one airline I won't be flying any time soon...
