Man jailed on drug charges

A New Castle man is in jail facing drug chares.
Lamar Javon Paris, 25, of 615 Oak St., is charged with possession of a controlled substance and distributing a small amount of marijuana.
He was arraigned before District Judge Melissa Amodie and is in the Lawrence County jail on $1,000 bond.
According to New Castle police, the department’s street crimes unit was patrolling on the East Side at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, encountered Paris walking on East Washington Street.
An officer, knowing there was a warrant for Paris, followed him, and the New Castle Police Department High Impact Team took Paris into custody without incident.
During a search, police said, they found a bag of suspected marijuana, a cell phone and $686.
Officers said they believe Paris, who confirmed he is unemployed, “has no legitimate reason for possessing the funds.”
They added they believe the money is related to drug trafficking.
