NEW CASTLE —
City police and firefighters rescued a man who had fallen through the roof of the former Shenango China facility.
Anthony Leo Sipe, 22, of 219 N. Beaver St. was found inside the building about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters said he was stuck on an old plate rack.
New Castle police said a passer-by walking along the railroad tracks had heard someone screaming for help inside the building at 301 Glass St.
Police found Sipe, who they said appeared to be stuck on a wooden shelf. Police observed severe facial swelling and bruising, they said, as well as a large quantity of blood from what appeared to be a gash in the back of Sipe’s head.
He told police he had fallen.
Officers notified the New Castle Fire Department and Noga Ambulance, who removed Sipe. He was taken to Jameson Hospital then transferred to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Police said Sipe will be cited with criminal and defiant trespassing.
