Shenango Township police impersonator sought

NEW CASTLE — Shenango Township police are seeking someone who was impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Police said an East Side resident reported he had been stopped by a vehicle Wednesday evening on East Washington Street.

He described the vehicle as a tan Chevrolet Blazer, and said its driver began flashing his fog lights behind him.

The man pulled his vehicle over, he said, and a man got out of the Blazer, identified himself as a police officer and accused the victim of speeding.

The victim told police he asked to see the person’s identification. The suspect then returned to his vehicle and drove off toward New Castle.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact Shenango Township police at (724) 654-2243.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
