Shenango to hire Commesso as football coach

NEW CASTLE — Shenango High School will hire Hopewell assistant Mike Commesso as its head football coach Monday night.

The decision to hire the Mohawk High graduate was made after four of an original field of 22 candidates went through a third interview at last night's work session of the Shenango Area School Board.

Sports editor Kayleen Cubbal will have more on Commesso's hiring in Wednesday's print edition of The News.

The Laurel School Board will announce its choice for head football coach at Tuesday night's board meeting as well.

A letter writer to The News has suggested there’s plenty to be negative about when it comes to the city of New Castle. In general, are you negative or hopeful about our city?

I’m negative. Nepotism, corruption, and incompetence have ruled for years. Nothing has changed.
I’m hopeful. I view the county as a whole, so there’s a lot to be positive about.
Mixed. I think we’re like any other area. You have to take the bad with the good.
