NEW CASTLE — New Castle police are looking for suspects who stole dirt bikes and fired shots on the South Side Sunday night.

The alleged robbery occurred in an alley off the 1700  block of Hamilton Street, around 7 p.m.

Police arrested two men whom witnesses reported were the suspects, but later released them upon learning they were not involved.

A woman who lives in that area told police she was on her porch when she saw a man pushing a dirt bike through the alley with two other men. She said she saw one man drop the bike and fire a shot in a southern direction.

She ran into her house and heard more shots, she told police.

Police also received a call from the owner of the bikes  regarding the alleged theft. He told police that he heard a dirt bike start up behind his house and he looked out and saw three men on two of his dirt bikes. He said he told the men to get off the bikes, and they ignored him and pushed them into the alley. Then one of them shot at him three times, he said.

Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to contact the city police at (724) 656-3576.
