Two accused of shoplifting spree

NEW CASTLE — Two Allegheny County men are facing racketeering charges in Lawrence County involving an alleged shoplifting ring.

The Pennsylvania attorney general’s office filed the charges against James E. Austin, 35, of Pittsburgh and Richard D. Scalise, 39, of Monroeville.

Both man face 20 felony counts alleging they were involved in a series of retail thefts from Walmart stores in Pennsylvania. Criminal complaints charge the men also were involved in similar activities in Ohio.

According to authorities, the men would steal items from the Walmarts, then return the products for cash or gift cards.
