Local man on ‘Judge Judy’ accused of threats

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man who appeared on “Judge Judy” is wanted for allegedly robbing the woman opposing him on the episode.

Now, Michael Isaiah Cuffie, 30, of 908 Cunningham Ave., is facing more charges for allegedly threatening the woman if she doesn’t drop the robbery-related charges against him.

New Castle police charged Cuffie with intimidating a witness, terroristic threats and harassment.

Police said that on April 30, Cuffie called the woman he allegedly had robbed, and told her if she does not drop the charges against him, he would have people rob her house. The woman told police Cuffie also threatened to kill her, her mother and her child.

The alleged robbery occurred two days earlier, the same night the "Judge Judy" episode aired.

Cuffie allegedly stole $200 and the woman’s cell phone from her purse the night of April 28 while they were on a date, according to an account the woman gave the police.

He faces charges of robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, theft from a motor vehicle, simple assault and harassment in connection with that incident.

Cuffie and the robbery victim, an on-and-off girlfriend, had both appeared in a television episode of Judge Judy airing April 28. In it, Judge Judy dismissed the woman’s $2,699 claim against Cuffee for a destroyed laptop. The woman had said in her statement on television that she was suing for money she had put into his account while he was in jail. Information about the episode was from an online site: www.Nerdles.com.

Cuffie has a history of arrests dating back to 2002, according to court documents.

In 2010, he pleaded guilty to carrying a gun without a license and resisting arrest the year before and was sentenced to serve time in a state correctional facility.
