Woman charged in blaze that destroyed apartments

NEW CASTLE — An Ellwood City woman is facing arson and other charges following a fire in the borough Monday.

Police are charging Brandy Rombold, 36, of Rear 712 Park Ave. in the fire, where damage was estimated at $750,000.

Ellwood City Fire Chief Rick Myers said the blaze destroyed three apartments in the Walnut Ridge public housing complex on Loop Street.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze. No occupants were hurt, but the fire displaced two children and four adults, officials said.

Rombold is charged with eight counts each of arson, causing a catastrophe, risking a catastrophe, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
