NEW CASTLE — An East Side couple are facing charges for allegedly struggling with police during their arrests on warrants.

Police said they arrested Quayshan Toraan Michlich, 22, of 117 Park Ave. and Kayla M. Jones, 22, of 1023 Pollock Ave. at an apartment in the 400 block of East Leasure Avenue around 11 p.m. Monday.

Both were wanted on bench warrants.

Police allege Jones refused to open the apartment door after the owner of the house had given them permission to enter.

Jones allegedly told the officers Michlich was not in the apartment and she would not open the door, and she called them names and yelled obscenities.

Police forced open the apartment door and Michlich and Jones both struggled with officers as they were arrested.

Jones had a bloody nose from a previous disturbance she had been involved in with Michlich, police said.

When Michlich was taken to the Lawrence County jail, he had blood around his mouth from his fight with Jones and he tried to spit on one of the arresting officers, according to police.

Jones faces charges of two counts of hindering apprehension or prosecution and one count each of resisting arrest, obstruction of administrative law, flight to avoid apprehension, defiant trespass and disorderly conduct.

Police said charges of assault by prisoner and flight to avoid apprehension are pending against Michlich.
