NEW CASTLE —
A fire that started in a duplex at 602 Taylor St. today ignited a neighboring home.
Three families were displaced by the blaze that broke out around 9:30 a.m. and destroyed both two-story structures.
Winds caused the flames to ignite the house next door, where a couple had lived for 37 years.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from New Castle and Shenango Township fought the blaze, while the Union Township Fire Department manned New Castle’s station, according to Mark Panella, the city’s fire chief.
Panella said the firefighters had trouble with water after one its tankers was used up and a hydrant blew out.
A section of Taylor Street between Cunningham Avenue and East Washington Street was closed.
Complete coverage of the fire — including photo and videos — will be in tomorrow’s New Castle News.
