NEW CASTLE —
Marijuana butter, an up-and-coming fad, was among the suspected drugs police seized Friday, along with guns and money.
Members of the District Attorney’s Drug Task Force special investigative unit and the New Castle police raided a house at 212 Hillcrest Ave. in the late morning after federal marshals had arrested the resident, Anthony Antonini, 21, on a warrant from Wyoming.
Antonini is wanted in Wyoming on drug charges. Upon entering his home, agents found a slew of suspected drugs and weapons and obtained a warrant to search the house, according to District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa.
The suspected drugs seized included a total of 2.7 pounds of high-test marijuana with an estimated street value of $10,000, he said.
They also confiscated marijuana butter, which contains high levels of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, “the chemical in marijuana that gets people high,” Lamancusa said.
The substance is made by heating the marijuana plant, stems and all, with a butane torch and extracting a sap that has a high concentration of THC.
This was the first time marijuana butter has been seen in Lawrence County, according to Lamancusa. The amount confiscated was enough to fill a can of chewing tobacco, but is worth a lot of money because of its high potency, he explained.
The exact amount and potency of the substance had not been determined late Friday afternoon.
The officers also found two stashes of crystal methamphetamine weighing a total of 9.4 grams with a total estimated street value of $1,000, and 40 Xanax pills also worth about $1,000, Lamancusa said.
Police reported seizing an assault rifle, three shotguns and a tactical shotgun known as a “Street Sweeper” loaded with 20 shotgun shells, as well as an assortment of ammunition, multiple scales and packaging materials.
The marijuana was in eight separate stashes, officials said, hidden in various places in the house.
Lamancusa said Antonini had $2,412, a Rolex wristwatch and several gold chains, rings and bracelets on him, which also were confiscated.
Multiple charges against Antonini were pending, he said, but as of late Friday afternoon, had not been filed.
