Robber gets $50, milk, candy

NEW CASTLE — New Castle police are hoping to learn from surveillance video who robbed an East Side convenience store.

A man entered the Market 24 Food Mart around 4:10 a.m. Monday and demanded $50 from a clerk. He also walked off with a bottle of milk and a large size Reese’s peanut butter cup, according to police.

The clerk told police the man had entered the store and asked if he could get service. When he demanded the money, he threatened the clerk’s family, he told officers.

The clerk said he handed over the money and the man left.

Police said no weapon was used.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
