Man arrested after shots fired

NEW CASTLE — A South Side man arrested after allegedly firing shots in the Big Run projects is free on bail.

New Castle police arrested 34-year-old Robert Brown of 415 Lyndal St. in connection with the gunfire around 3 a.m. Friday.

A policeman on patrol told fellow officers via radio that he had heard shots fired in the Sciota Street area. Officers reported hearing more gunshots over the radio while they were talking to him.

Meanwhile, an officer reported, he had seen a man later identified as Brown dropping an item on the ground.

The officer who had reported the shots recovered the warm, Sig Sauer P238 handgun from the ground, police said. Officers also found three spent 9 millimeter shell casings on a sidewalk nearby, they added.

The gun was reported to have been stolen from Neshannock Township, police said.

Brown, who police said had pleaded guilty to a previous felony, was arrested.

He is charged with receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm prohibited, flight to avoid apprehension, recklessly endangering another person, loitering and prowling at night, and three counts of illegal discharge of a firearm.

He was arraigned by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie, who set bond at $25,000. He posted bail Friday afternoon.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 fell from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. Many are speculating that Russian rebels (supported by Vladimir Putin) are responsible for downing the aircraft. What do you think?

Yes. All evidence points that way.
No. Everyone is so quick to point fingers, but there's not enough evidence to support claims of Russian guilt.
I'm not sure. I'll just wait until the investigation is over to make up my mind.
What is up with these Malaysian Airlines planes? I know one airline I won't be flying any time soon...
