City bus, car collide in New Wilmington

NEW CASTLE — No injuries were reported when a car and bus collided in New Wilmington.

New Wilmington police said a New Castle Transit Authority bus, driven by Chris Perretti, 59, of Lathrop Street, and a 2009 Toyota, driven by Westminster College student Sarah Waszyn, 18, of North Huntingdon, Pa., collided on Beechwood Road at the intersection with Vincent Drive about 3:35 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the car was sideswiped by the bus, causing it to spin clockwise. The bus sustained slight damage but was driven away. The car sustained extensive front-end damage and had to be towed, police said.

Waszyn told police her brakes failed as she came down Vincent Drive. However, police said they believe she failed to stop at the intersection.

She was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic.

One passenger was on the bus at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported.
