Three shot in four days, one fatally

NEW CASTLE — New Castle has experienced three shootings — one fatal — over the past four days.

Andrew Edwards Jr., 29, of McKeesport, was pronounced dead of multiple gunshot wounds to the head at 8 p.m. Friday at Crestview Gardens on Pin Oak Drive.

Deputy Coroner Richard Johnson pronounced Edwards dead in the hallway of one of the buildings of the apartment complex.

Johnson said an autopsy was performed Saturday at Heritage Valley Hospital, Beaver County, and the death was ruled a homicide.

He noted the fatal shooting occurred less than 24 hours after an earlier shooting, this one on Thursday night, in the Crestview Gardens complex but across the street.

Police were called about 10 p.m. Thursday to Crestview Gardens. They found Stephen Marquise Brown, 17, of Apartment 2C, 1108 Pin Oak Drive. Brown had been shot in the right buttocks.

Johnson said Brown was flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.

New Castle police chief Bobby Salem yesterday said another shooting occurred late Saturday. He said a man was shot in the hand and face on Park Avenue. No time was given and no name was provided.

Salem said this man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa last night said all of the shootings are under investigation. He said he could not say at this time if they are connected.

Lamancusa said no arrests have yet been made, but said “leads are being followed and suspects have been identified.”
