Union Township house destroyed by fire

NEW CASTLE — The state police fire marshal was called to investigate a Union Township fire early Tuesday.

Union Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Pat Donofrio said the single-story vacant ranch house at 1422 W. Division St. was engulfed when firefighters arrived shortly after 3 a.m.

“It was a total loss,” he said. Firefighters remained at the scene until 5 a.m.

The property is owned by Kaja Holdings 2 LLC of Columbia, S.C.

Donofrio said a neighbor called and reported the fire. He said the fire origin did not appear to be suspicious, but he contacted the fire marshal.

“Right now we’re saying the fire is of an unknown cause,” he said.

The volunteer fire departments from Mahoning, North Beaver and Shenango townships provided mutual aid.
