Missing child located in Las Vegas

NEW CASTLE — Police say they have located a child whose mother is accused of kidnapping her and taking her to Las Vegas.

The child is being held in protective custody by Las Vegas authorities, according to Union Township police, who investigated the incident. Officers said the child’s father, who has sole custody, reported his 1-year-old daughter missing.

The father is arranging to return the child to Lawrence County, police said.

Charges of kidnapping and interference with custody of children have been filed against 24-year-old Shannon Charlotte Taylor of Las Vegas, and a warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Police said the child was found June 1 when Taylor allegedly called the child’s father and told him she was unaware she was not allowed to take the child.

Police said the tot’s father contacted them around 7 p.m. Saturday, saying his child was missing.

He said Taylor is an ex-girlfriend and she had been at his home for possible reconciliation. He told police she caused a disturbance and he asked her to leave. He said she left with the child, despite a custody order that gives him primary physical custody and does not give Taylor, the mother, any custody.
