Woman arrested for porch pilferage

NEW CASTLE — An East Side woman was arrested after allegedly taking items from neighbors’ houses.

Erica Jean Norge, 25, of 910 Morton St., was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, six counts of theft, six counts of receiving stolen property and public drunkenness.

Her bond was set at $15,000 and she was lodged in the Lawrence County jail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

New Castle police were called to the 700 block of Monroe Street about 3 a.m. Saturday and found three people arguing in a parking lot.

One of the women said she had heard a noise on her enclosed patio. When she investigated, she said, she found Norge trying to get inside the house. The woman said Norge was holding a box fan that had been kept on her patio.

A second neighbor, who had joined the women, told police he had heard the burglary call on his scanner, looked out and saw the woman who told him Norge had been trying to enter her house.

He told officers he found Norge in the parking lot and noticed she had in her possession a small potted plant, ash tray, porch pillow, wind chime and fly swatter. He said those items had been taken from his porch.
