Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

NEW CASTLE — A Union Township man is facing drug charges stemming from a traffic stop.

New Castle police charged Shawn Michael Randall, 29, of 401 Boston Ave. after his vehicle was stopped by officers on Pollock Avenue around 12:45 p.m. Sunday.

Officers said they had recognized Randall and knew his license was under suspension. When they approached the vehicle, they said, they observed a marijuana cigar inside the door handle and detected the smell of the drug.

When officers searched the vehicle, they said, they also found a loose rock of suspected crack cocaine.

Randall was charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under a suspended license. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 25.
