NEW CASTLE —
A New Castle couple both face assault charges following an argument Sunday afternoon.
Alisha Jones, 31, of 308 Bell Ave., was charged with aggravated and simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. She remains in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
John Lavell Hawkins, 26, of 207 W. Lincoln Ave. will be charged by New Castle police with aggravated and simple assault, flight to avoid apprehension, recklessly endangering another person and resisting arrest. He was admitted to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
New Castle police were called to the 200 block of Wick Avenue about 2:30 p.m. and saw two men leaving the residence.
Officers said one of the men, Hawkins, was bleeding from his left thigh.
According to police, he told officers he had argued with his girlfriend, Alisha Jones, who stabbed him with a kitchen knife.
Jones, found inside the basement of a house at 216 Wick Ave., confirmed to police the two had argued outside the house and Hawkins had attacked her, pushing her to the ground.
She said she fled inside but the argument continued. She said she stabbed Hawkins in the leg with a kitchen knife. Afterward, she said, he left the house and returned with a large knife. She said the two continued to struggle but Hawkins was disarmed by a witness.
Jones said she fled to the basement and Hawkins left.
Police said Jones had sustained a wound on her left arm, apparently cut by a knife.
As they spoke with Jones, police said, Hawkins attempted to flee. He was apprehended following a struggle with officers.
