Shenango high school evacuated

NEW CASTLE — Shenango High School was evacuated Thursday after school officials learned of a possible bomb threat.

Superintendent Dr. Michael Schreck said shortly after 1 p.m., someone discovered a picture of a bomb and “3 o’clock” written on a the wall of a stall in the boys bathroom.

The Shenango Township Police Department was contacted and students and staff were taken to the football stadium around 1:15 p.m., Schreck said.

Police brought in two bomb-sniffing dogs and searched the building, Schreck said, but nothing was found.

Students were able to return to the building around 2:45 p.m. and dismissed a little before 3 p.m. Schreck said normal dismissal time is 2:52 p.m.

“We take this very seriously,” Schreck said. “We’re going to work endlessly to determine who did this.”

He thanked the Shenango Township police, saying they “were tremendous.”
