NEW CASTLE —
A New Castle woman is facing charges for allegedly falsely claiming she was unemployed while receiving food benefits.
The Pennsylvania Office of Inspector General charged Brittany Renee Monoco, 29, of 14 E. Maple St. with a violation of the state public welfare code.
The office alleges Monoco unlawfully obtained $2,200 from the supplemental nutrition assistance program from Nov. 1, 2010, through Sept. 30, 2011, by means of a willful false statement.
Monoco allegedly failed to disclose to department of welfare caseworkers on a semiannual reporting form that she was earning wages during that period, which would have affected her eligibility for the benefits negatively, according to paperwork filed in the court of District Judge Melissa A. Amodie.
Monoco will receive a summons to appear in court.
