NEW CASTLE —
A Mahoningtown man is facing multiple charges following a high-speed pursuit Wednesday through several municipalities.
Union Township police said Jordan E. McMullen, 19, was seen stuffing $200 worth of merchandise into a tote bag at Walmart Wednesday afternoon.
Stopped by a loss prevention officer, McMullen shoved her and an elderly greeter to the ground, possibly breaking the greeter’s hip, police said.
Union Township officers began pursuit of McMullen’s green Grand AM on Winter Road, they said.
According to police, the car “blew past” a New Castle police cruiser at Washington and Smithfield streets, heading toward Mahoningtown, turning onto Cherry Street to Route 168 to West Pittsburg.
The officer said McMullen rammed a city police cruiser and hit speeds estimated at 120 miles per hour.
He said the pursuit ended on Center Avenue Extension in West Pittsburg, a dead-end street.
The officer said the car was driven about 50 yards into the woods, where it crashed into a tree.
Wednesday evening, McMullen was being checked at Jameson Hospital prior to arraignment.
Police said charges are expected to range from assault of a police officer with a motor vehicle and assault of the Walmart employees to retail theft, fleeing and eluding officers, resisting arrest, retail theft and various motor vehicle violations.
Officers said five or six New Castle police cars and one Union Township cruiser participated in the chase.
