NEW CASTLE —
New Castle police have arrested two people in connection with an East Side home break-in.
Police said Billie Ann Niglio, 25, of 1110 Summit St., and Kevin Edward Cross, 30, of 3412 Ellwood Road, were caught inside a house in the 800 block of Lathrop Street Friday and police found a pile of freshly cut copper on the basement floor.
Police said the burglary occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a neighbor saw a black pickup truck parked behind Randolph Street and footprints in the snow leading to the Lathrop Street house.
Officers said they pulled into an alley where the truck was parked and found the door to the house had been forced open and Cross was standing inside the doorway.
An officer said Cross and Niglio were ordered to leave the house at gunpoint and arrested. The pickup truck was towed.
Cross and Niglio both are charged with burglary, attempt to commit theft, criminal mischief, criminal trespass and criminal conspiracy to commit burglary.
They were committed to the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $5,000 bond each, and both have posted bail.
