Couple facing theft charges

NEW CASTLE — Pennsylvania state police have filed charges against a couple accused of stealing guns to get money for drugs.

Megan Kohlmeyer, 28, of New Castle, and Daniel Challis, 35, of Ellwood City, face charges of theft, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy.

Police said Kohlmeyer, who had been in a rehabilitation facility in Washington, Pa., had confessed to taking a 30.06 bolt-action rifle and .22 caliber semiautomatic pistol from a house on Hanna Lane in Hickory Township. She said the weapons were sold to an unidentified person so the couple could obtain money for heroin.

The theft is believed to have taken place in August.

Police said Kohlmeyer is now lodged in the Washington County jail and awaiting extradition to Lawrence County on a bench warrant for unrelated charges.

A warrant was issued for Challis’ arrest.

A customer near Pittsburgh was shot and killed as he tried to stop a bank robber from fleeing in his getaway car. What would you have done?

I would have tried to stop the crook too, regardless of the consequences. We need more heroes to end this madness.
Let him get away. You saw what happened in this case. However, I would try to get information to help police capture him. That’s THEIR job!
