Girl flown to Pittsburgh after two-vehicle crash

NEW CASTLE — An 11-year-old girl was flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh after an accident in New Beaver Monday.

The two-vehicle crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. in front of Frederick’s Mobile Home Park on Route 168.

The girl was described as “non-responsive” at the scene, according to scanner reports. Volunteer firefighters from New Beaver and Enon Valley responded and assisted in preparing for the arrival of a helicopter to take the girl to Pittsburgh.

The identity of the girl, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was unavailable at press time. State police were investigating the crash and had not released any information.

However, witnesses said the vehicle in which the girl was a passenger was pulling out of the mobile home park. The driver said he lost his brakes and entered the highway in front of the second vehicle, which was headed north on Route 168.

The helicopter landed near the intersection of Route 168 and Beaver Dam Road.

No other injuries were reported.

A letter writer to The News has suggested there’s plenty to be negative about when it comes to the city of New Castle. In general, are you negative or hopeful about our city?

I’m negative. Nepotism, corruption, and incompetence have ruled for years. Nothing has changed.
I’m hopeful. I view the county as a whole, so there’s a lot to be positive about.
Mixed. I think we’re like any other area. You have to take the bad with the good.
