Man accused of assaulting police

NEW CASTLE — A man accused of harassing a minister on Facebook is facing additional charges for allegedly being unruly at the hospital.

Anthony Petronzio, 48, of 1026 E. Washington St. allegedly assaulted two police officers. They had been called to Jameson Hospital Dec. 19 to calm him down after hospital personnel reported he was being combative.

Police said Petronzio was in a corner of a hospital room, swinging a silver bucket at staff members. He allegedly pulled a police officer’s hair and tried to hit him in the face. Another office suffered a bloodied elbow.

Petronzio is charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident.

The same day, police had charged Petronzio with disorderly conduct and harassment for allegedly being disruptive at Bible study meetings and sending harassing Facebook messages to a minister, his wife and the church congregation.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
