Hearing rescheduled in fatal shooting

NEW CASTLE — A preliminary hearing for the man accused of fatally shooting his father has been postponed for a second time.

The hearing for Michael Burrelli, 28, of 5 Fruitland Drive is now scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Burrelli is charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of his father, Charles Burrelli, 58, also of Fruitland Drive.

According to state police, Burrelli allegedly shot his father seven times the evening of Aug. 21 at the May’s Donuts production site in Union Township. The elder Burrelli was the owner of the business run by the two men.

Burrelli is being held in the Lawrence County jail without bond. He also is charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.

Police said he was attempting to move his father’s body and dispose of it at Moraine State Park when officers intervened.
