State sets weight limits on 16 local bridges

NEW CASTLE — The Pennsylvania Department of Transporation will post weight limits on 16 bridges in Lawrence County.

The postings, to begin this week are intended to slow the deterioration and ensure safety. The bridges are among 1,000 statwide that are deemed structurally deficient.

The local bridges and their new weight limits are:

•Route 18 (Mahoning Avenue) over the Shenango River in the city of New Castle, 30 tons

•Route 19 over a branch of Slippery Rock Creek in Scott Township, 32 tons

•Route 65 over an abandoned rail line in Shenango Township, 36 tons, except combinations, 40 tons

•Route 208 over Deer Creek in Pulaski Township, 20 tons, except combinations, 26 tons

•A second bridge on Route 208 over a branch of Deer Creek, Pulaski Township, 32 tons

•Route 488 over Slippery Rock Creek in Perry Township, 38 tons

•Route 956 over the Little Neshannock Creek in Wilmington Township, 33 tons, except combinations, 40 tons

•Route 956 over a branch of Little Neshannock Creek in Wilmington Township, 33 tons

•Frew Mill Road over Big Run in Slippery Rock Township, 26 tons, except combinations, 31 tons

•Georgetown Road over a branch of Taylor Run in Plain Grove Township, 25 tons

•Mountville Road over the Slippery Rock Creek in Slippery Rock Township, 24 tons, except combinations, 28 tons

•East Poland Avenue over a branch of Hickory Run in Bessemer Borough, 28 tons

•Petersburg Road over a branch of Honey Creek in North Beaver Township, 36 tons, except combinations, 40 tons

•West Washington Street over the ISS railroad in the city of New Castle, 33 tons, except combinations, 40 tons

•Pulaski Road over a branch of the Shenango River in Pulaski Township, 30 tons, except combinations, 40 tons

•Churchill Road over Route 224 in Mahoning Township, 14 tons, except combinations 18 tons.
