NEW CASTLE — A Mahoningtown woman is facing charges after her car went over an embankment earlier last month.

New Castle police have charged 69-year-old Jean A. Kaczmarczyk of 817 N. Liberty St. with general impairment and driving under the influence at the highest rate of alcohol in connection with the accident.

Police said the crash occurred around 11:50 p.m. Dec. 14, 50 yards off North Liberty Street. As they approached the driver and asked for her license, they noticed a large number of prescription bottles in her purse. She allegedly told police she had taken a few Vicodin.

Police said they found a bottle of vodka on the back seat of her car.

Ambulance and New Castle fire department members helped Kaczmarczyk up the embankment. She was taken to Jameson Hospital, where she consented to a blood test. Her car was towed.

Police said her blood alcohol level was 0.252 percent.

She was sent a summons to appear in court.
