Blaze causes major damage to duplex

NEW CASTLE — The state police fire marshal was called Tuesday to investigate a blaze in an Ellwood City duplex.

Crews were called to 120 Spring Ave. just before 1 p.m. Tuesday. They remained at the scene until 4:30 p.m.

Firefighters said the third floor on both sides of the building sustained major damage. They said one side of the building was occupied, but no one was at home when the call came in.

The Ellwood City Fire Department was assisted by volunteer departments from Perry and Wayne townships and Chewton in Lawrence County and Franklin and North Sewickley in Beaver County.

Weather was a factor and several firefighters were treated for heat-related problems with water and wet towels provided by an ambulance company. No serious injuries were sustained by firefighters, officials said.

Fire department personnel said they did not know the name of the owner, resident or where the blaze began.

Do you talk to yourself when you're alone?

Yes, but I’m basically just thinking out loud.
No, that would be weird.
I don’t know. Next time I’m alone, I’ll ask.
