Man facing multiple charges following chase, scuffle with police

NEW CASTLE — A Union Township man who allegedly ran from police is in jail on $25,000 bond.

Scott Aron Tyler Gough, 22, of 30 Spring St., is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of simple assault, resisting arrest, two counts of disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, driving while operating privileges were suspended, exceeding the posted speed limit and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

He was arraigned by District Judge Scott McGrath who set bond at $25,000.

Union Township police said Gough’s vehicle was clocked at 71 miles per hour in a posted 35-mile-per-hour zone on Atlantic Avenue at 5:40 p.m. Sunday.

The officer said he pursued Gough over Sunny Avenue and Bluff Street to Spring Street, where Gough jumped from his car and tried to run.

According to police, Gough resisted the officer’s efforts to take him into custody. The officer said he got one wrist cuffed but Gough, who police said was screaming and yelling, tried to fight with police causing the officer’s ring finger to get caught in the handcuff and become lacerated.

The officer said he handcuffed Gough and placed him in the back of the police car but Gough began to kick the rear driver’s side door and window, and tried to kick the officer who had opened the door and told him to stop kicking. The officer said he deployed his Taser to get Gough to comply.
