Man charged with assaulting officer

NEW CASTLE — An Edinburg man has been charged with assaulting a police officer.

Michael D. Wymer, 48, of 4487 W. State St., is charged with aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Mahoning Township police, called for a domestic disturbance about 10 p.m. Friday, said they encountered Wymer at his home and he appeared to be intoxicated and was yelling.

Officers said Wymer was asked to step outside and stop yelling but he refused and walked away.

The officer said he took Wymer’s arm but was pushed away. Police said Wymer continued to be uncooperative and the officer deployed his Taser.

Police noted Wymer had an injury to his face and summoned an ambulance to the Mahoning Township police department to evaluate him. They said the ambulance crew cleared him.

Mahoning Township police were assisted by Union, Bessemer and North Beaver police departments.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
