Cunningham Avenue fire seen as suspicious

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle fire marshal is investigating the cause of a blaze that damaged a home on Cunningham Avenue over the weekend.

Firefighters said the blaze, which started on the back porch of the house at 1112 Cunningham Ave., was deemed suspicious.

City firefighters were called at 1 a.m. Saturday. They said the home is owned by Margaret Moses, who was at home with her son at the time flames broke out.

No one was injured as a result of the fire, and crews were at the scene for about two hours.

Firefighters said there were no particular problems fighting the blaze, which had spread into the home from the porch. But damage was estimated at $40,000.
