Man charged with break-in

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man is facing 15 charges stemming from a break-in on the city’s West Side.

Glenn David Samuels, 22, was charged with burglary, aggravated and simple assault, criminal trespass, prohibited possession of a firearm, robbery, carrying a concealed firearm without a license, endangering the welfare of children, theft, receiving stolen property, terrroristic threats, recklessly endangering another, defiant trespassing, criminal mischief and harassment.

He was arraigned before District Judge Jennifer Nicholson and jailed on $25,000 bond.

According to New Castle police, officers were called to the 700 block of Altman Road at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said the caller identified Samuels as the intruder and told them he had gotten into a red truck and left.

Officers said the victim told police she had been in an upstairs bedroom with her 8-month-old son when Samuels broke into the home through a locked door.

She said Samuels went up the stairs and slapped her as she held her child. She said Samuels took the child from her, placed him on the bed and wrestled with her, breaking several items during the scuffle.

Afterward, she told officers, Samuels took $300 from her purse as she ran into another room with the baby. She said Samuels followed her into the room, showed her a black Taser and threatened to use it. The victim told officers she could see the handle of a black pistol in the waistband of Samuels’ pants when he raised his arms.

She said Samuels took several items, which are his, and handed them to an unknown man who had accompanied him. She also told police Samuels does not live in the residence and she had not seen him for several days.

Police said they observed bruises on the woman and damage to the door, its handle and dead bolt. Police said they encouraged the victim to obtain a protection form abuse order against Samuels, who was later arrested.
