NEW CASTLE —
New Castle city hall was closed yesterday afternoon due to a water line break.
Mayor Anthony Mastrangelo said the source of the break was a urinal in the men’s restroom on the first floor.
“It just blew out,” he said. “So, we had to turn the water off. There was no way we could conduct business.”
Water “was coming out so fast” and spread to the lobby, he added.
Mastrangelo said he left the building around 11:50 a.m., then got a call around noon that “water was all over the place.”
Public works director Michael Rooney said a water line to one of the urinals broke.
He said Central Heating & Plumbing Co. was called to fix the line. DiCaprio Carpet Cleaning was called to soak up the water.
Rooney said he expected the line to be repaired and the water cleaned up by yesterday afternoon. The building was expected to be open today.
