Wampum man arrested for assault, threats

NEW CASTLE — A Wampum man found hiding behind a false wall in the basement of his house has been charged with domestic violence.

Douglas Arthur Hazen, 46, of 2639 Wampum Road, was arraigned before District Judge Scott McGrath on three counts of simple assault, two counts of terroristic threats and one count each of recklessly endangering another and harassment. He is free on $25,000 bond.

According to court records, state and New Castle police received anonymous tips that Hazen was engaging in abusive behavior. The victim told police he had terrorized her through beatings and threatened her life.

Police said they observed signs of physical abuse on the victim.
