Four people, dog escape house fire

NEW CASTLE — An Ellwood City family is being assisted by the Red Cross after a fire destroyed their home Wednesday morning.

Ellwood City Fire Chief Rick Myers said the interior of the house at 416 Church St. was destroyed. The cause is under investigation. The call came in at 7:50 a.m.

The homeowner, Louella Bookamer, escaped along with two female relatives and a 21-month-old child, whose names were not available. The family dog also escaped the home. No injuries were reported.

The Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by departments from Ellwood City, Perry Township, Franklin Township, North Sewickley and Chewton.
