New charges filed in Bessemer holdup

NEW CASTLE — A New Castle man is facing charges he was an accomplice in a 2012 robbery in Bessemer.

North Beaver Township police have filed charges against George Elmer Keller Jr., 35, of 400 Reed St. in connection with an Oct. 25, 2012, holdup at the K&D Corner Store in Bessemer.

The charges stem from an investigation by North Beaver and state police, and include a statement from a suspect who eventually pleaded guilty to the robbery. Daniel Keller of New Castle is now serving a five- to 10-year jail term for the crime. According to officers, Daniel Keller implicated his uncle, George Keller, in the crime back in 2012. However, George Keller had left the area, police said, and the current charges weren’t filed until he was located.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the office of District Judge Jennifer Nicholson, a North Beaver officer responding to the 2012 robbery came across George Keller with his vehicle nearby. He was asked if he had seen anyone running into nearby woods and he told police he had.

Keller then drove from the scene. It was not until later, after Daniel Keller was arrested for the crime, that police became suspicious of George Keller.

Daniel Keller was charged with multiple counts connected with the robbery. He eventually pleaded guilty to robbery in exchange for having the other counts dropped.

George Keller is accused of conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit theft and receiving stolen property. He is being held in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for Tuesday.

Milwaukee catcher Martin Maldonado has been suspended five games for sucker punching Pittsburgh’s Travis Snider during a bench clearing brawl on Sunday. You OK with that suspension?

Yes. Seems fair.
No. Baseball NEVER gets it right in these situations. Should have been at least 20 games for his sucker punch into a pile of players.
Not sure, but I’d love to see baseball be like hockey and allow two guys to fight for a while before breaking it up. Let’s see how tough Maldonado is then.
