Firefighters called to China Banquet

NEW CASTLE — New Castle firefighters were called about 6:40 p.m. Sunday to the China Banquet restaurant.

Smoke and an orange glow could be seen coming from the roof of the building, which is located the at the corner of North Jefferson and East North streets. The building was occupied at the time of the fire call, but everyone inside got out safely.

Firefighters ventilated the building by breaking at least two front windows, and at least two firemen ascended a ladder onto the building’s roof in the area of a heating unit.

It is the second time this year that firefighters have been called to the restaurant. On Feb. 3, firefighters found a small amount of material smoldering around the heating unit on the roof. The interior of the restaurant suffered some smoke and water damage.
