Man arrested at school for having drugs

NEW CASTLE — A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to take a bag containing drugs and a knife into a school.

New Castle police reported that Sean C. Crisci, 32, of 225 Edgewood Ave. went to George Washington Intermediate Elementary School around 12:50 p.m. Thursday and set off the metal detector at the entrance.

A city police officer working security at the door reported he had patted down Crisci and found a bulge in his jacket pocket. When the officer questioned it, he continued, Crisci put down his cell phone and left, walking away quickly. He returned seconds later and presented his identification card and the officer noticed his pocket was empty, according to police. Crisci went through the metal detector and set it off again.

The officer searched him, found a scale and an empty bag that said “good bud” on it. The officer then told Crisci he was not allowed into the school and walked him off of the property to North Mercer Street.

A janitor and the officer found a Crown Royal bag near where Crisci had left the school the first time.

Inside were four capped needles, a spoon, two shoestrings, a key-shaped knife, a yellow razor knife, six lighters, a clear bag containing 0.8 gram of suspected marijuana, a PA Access card with Crisci’s name on it, a pre-paid Visa card with his name on it, 49 empty rolling papers and a suboxone strip.

The officer said Crisci then returned to the school in a silver truck that had initially dropped him off, but he was crouched down on the passenger side. The officer ordered him out of the truck and he was taken to the city police station and strip-searched.

Police have charged Crisci with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned by District Judge Scott A. McGrath, who set his bond at $1,000 and lodged him in the Lawrence County jail.
