Union still undecided on tax hike
The Union school board is hoping to avoid a tax increase next year but has not decided yet. During Wednesday’s meeting, Samantha Charles, district business manager, provided an overview of funding for the 2013-14 school year, based on Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed budget.

Youth Football: Union district to take over kids’ program
The Union Area School District is doing its part to help youth football in the township. The Union Area School Board’s athletic committee and the Union Township Athletic Association have approved the transition of the Pee Wee and Midget football programs to the district.
Union uses federal funds for technology
A portion of Title 1 federal funding is being used for technical advancement in the Union Area School District. During the educational report segment of this week’s board meeting, Linda O’Neill, elementary principal and Title 1 coordinator for the district, noted some of that program’s federal funding was used to purchase Barnes and Noble classroom Nook e-readers.
WPIAL Girls Playoffs: Union likely to see up-and-down game
The postseason drought is about to end for the Union High girls basketball team. The Lady Scots are set to appear in their first WPIAL Class A playoff game since 2009 at 6:30 p.m. today at Cornell against Winchester Thurston.
