High School Hoops: Smialowski resigns at Union

NEW CASTLE — Union High is looking for a new coach.

Dave Smialowski has resigned as boys basketball coach after guiding the Scotties to a 10-13 record and a WPIAL Class A playoff berth.  Union’s season ended with a 74-62 setback to Wilkinsburg in its first-round game at Butler.

Smialowski spent seven years at the helm and finished with a career record of 85-73. The Scotties qualified for the playoffs six times, advancing to the WPIAL semifinals once and the PIAA playoffs twice.
