Union loses payroll manager

NEW CASTLE — The Union school district is looking for a new payroll and benefits manager.

The board accepted the resignation of Tara Sheffler from that position, effective Aug. 27.

Superintendent Alfonso “Butch” Angelucci said Sheffler had done an excellent job and will be missed in the district.

Sheffler, who served in that capacity for six years, also was junior class and prom adviser. Those positions will now be filled by Amy Ryan, who resigned as sophomore class adviser.

At its meeting Wednesday night, the board also:

•Hired Brittany Vitale as a long-term pre-kindergarten substitute teacher for the 2013-14 school year.

•Accepted the resignation of Christine Sutton, Title 1 teacher, and hired Krystle Fava for that position.

•Hired Anita Cialella as a life skills classroom teacher’s aide at $7.50 per hour.

•Hired Donna Borowski as middle/high school part-time secretary at $7.25 per hour, effective Aug. 14.

•Hired Nicole McCluskey as a five-hour custodian employee.

•Approved the continuance of the STEP program for the 2013-14 school year. Samantha Laverty will coordinate the program and Angelucci will select the candidates. The program will not exceed $12,000.

•Approved an extension of a leave of absence for Andrea Krarup, pre-kindergarten teacher, for the 2013-14 school year.

•Added 40 names to the substitute support staff and teacher list for the 2013-14 school year.

•Accepted the resignation of Judith Spears as middle/high school part-time secretary.
