Robinson named Union athletic director

NEW CASTLE — Long-time Union Township football coach Stacy Robinson has been named athletic director.

The school board this week voted 7-0 to appoint him to the position. Members Debra Allebach and John Pacella were absent.

Robinson, who has been the district’s head football coach for 17 years, will receive an annual salary of $21,000 plus benefits.

He will assume the post Sept. 1.

Prior to the meeting, the board held an executive session to interview the final four candidates for the athletic director post.

District officials said 10 candidates had applied.

The board also renewed the contract of Kevin Brennaman as buildings and grounds supervisor at a salary of $46,450. His contract will be retroactive to July 1 and will run through June 30, 2015.

Brennaman has held that job for four years. His new salary represents a 3 percent increase.

The board also:

•Hired Lauren Warso as assistant varsity cheerleading coach at $925.

•Approved hiring Jessica Kosciuszko as dance/drill team advisor at $800.

•Authorized the Union Area Boosters to proceed with repairs and additions to the football field concession stand. The boosters will volunteer time and provide materials for the project, which has been approved by the board. It is expected to be completed prior to the start of football season.

•Authorized the administration to seek at least three quotes to refinish the high school auditorium stage floor and to award a contract to the lowest responsible quote.

•Tabled plans to replace front doors and gymnasium doors at the elementary school. No bids were received for the project.

•Approved resignations of assistant volleyball coach Caitlyn Neely, yearbook advisor Anne McGowan and junior high cheerleading coach Nicole Vozza.
