Union OKs pay hikes, contract

NEW CASTLE — The Union school board approved pay increases for two administrators.

Elementary principal Linda O’Neill and high school principal Michael Ross each will get 3 percent raises.

After the increase, O’Neill’s salary will be $98,229 and Ross’ salary is $77,250.

O’Neill’s salary had been frozen for the past three years, according to Samantha Laverty, business manager/board secretary.

Ross is starting his second year in the position.

The board also approved a three-year contract for the district’s custodians and sweepers. The agreement is effective July 1 through June 30, 2017.

Laverty said the pact includes a 50-cent-per-hour raise each year.

Under the contract, health insurance also was changed to include a high-deductible plan, she added.

The deductibles are $1,250 for single individuals and $2,500 for a family and spouse plan. Under the health savings account, Laverty explained, the district will contribute $500 for singles and $1,000 for the family/spouse plan.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to authorize Speaker John Boehner to sue President Obama for allegedly overstepping his legal authority with the way he's handled Obamacare. Good call?

Yes. Obama's been overstepping his authority since day one in office. It's time he pay the piper.
No. The allegations are ridiculous and the law suit is a waste of time and tax payer money.
I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of Obama, but the suit seems a little extreme.
