Union superintendent gets new contract
Union’s top school administrator has received a four-year contract renewal. The board voted 8-0 this week to retain Dr. Alfonso “Butch” Angelucci through June 30, 2016. Michelle Morelli was absent.

WPIAL Playoff Preview: Union boys set to battle Bentworth
The Union High boys basketball program is no stranger to the WPIAL playoffs. Just don’t ask members of the current Scotties group about that. Union (11-9), seeded 10th, is making its first trip to the WPIAL playoffs since 2010.

Union programs promote reading
Two reading-themed events are coming up in the Union Area School District. The Scottie Pups Literacy Program for pre-kindergarten students is scheduled for noon today and Jan. 18 in the all-purpose room of the elementary school.
