Man, 20, shot on North Hill

NEW CASTLE — New Castle police are investigating an overnight shooting on the North Hill.

The victim, identified as 20-year-old Martierius Brown, was shot in the back and the leg. He was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown.

Chief Tom Sansone said that Brown was in surgery this morning, and that police were waiting for a report on his condition.

According to Sansone, officers were dispatched at 12:21 a.m. to the 300 block of Boyles Avenue for a report of shots fired. They were told by the dispatcher that the victim would be waiting at the nearby 7-Eleven store.

Brown was not there, but officers searching the area found him when he flagged down a cruiser on Centennal. The victim told police the shooting took place at the intersection of Centennial and Boyles, and that he did not know who shot him, or why.

Police requested a helicopter for medical transport, but weather kept the aircraft grounded. Instead, Brown — who listed addresses in Youngstown and on New Castle’s North Hill and South Side — was taken to St. Elizabeth by ambulance.

One witness reported seeing two males throwing a third one to the ground, while another saw two males chasing Brown on Boyles.

Sansone said police did not locate any casings in the area where the shooting supposedly took place.

The investigation is continuing.
