Governor orders flags lowered for policeman

NEW CASTLE — Gov. Tom Corbett Monday ordered all Pennsylvania flags at the Capitol Complex and at commonwealth facilities in Lawrence County to be lowered to half staff immediately in honor of Shenango Township Police Officer William J. McCarthy IV.

McCarthy, 60, died Thursday after being injured in the line of duty. The order remains in effect until sunset Wednesday, the day of McCarthy’s funeral.

All Pennsylvanians are invited to participate in this tribute.
